Redstone Presbytery Votes to Dismiss Ardara United Presbyterian Church to the Presbytery of the Alleghenies of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church
Delmont, PA, March 23, 2013: At the Saturday, March 23, 2013 regular meeting of the Redstone Presbytery of the Presbyterian Church USA, PC(USA), in Delmont, Pennsylvania, the Presbytery of Redstone voted to dismiss Ardara United Presbyterian Church to the Evangelical Presbyterian Church denomination. There were only a few dissenting votes.
The actual motion that was approved is as follows:
“Ardara United Presbyterian Church moves that it be dismissed with its property to the Presbytery of the Alleghenies of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church, conditioned upon the documented acceptance of Ardara United Presbyterian Church by the Presbytery of the Alleghenies.”
This action was the culmination of nearly two years of discernment and discussion between the congregation of Ardara United Presbyterian Church and the Committee on Discernment, appointed by Redstone Presbytery, in accordance with the “REDSTONE PRESBYTERY POLICY ON Congregations Considering Making a Request to Leave the PC (USA)”, which is available as a downloadable file from the Redstone Presbytery website : (http://www.redstone.org/index.php?option=com_docman&task=cat_view&gid=10&Itemid=211) (Select Presbytery Gracious Dismissal Policy towards the middle of the page.)
Key elements to the discernment process included multiple face-to-face meetings between the Redstone Presbytery’s Committee on Discernment and the Session of Ardara Church, as well as its congregation, and the unanimous vote of the congregation of Ardara United Presbyterian Church to seek to affiliate with the Evangelical Presbyterian Church.
The meetings between Ardara church members and the Redstone Committee on Discernment were at all times cordial, yet lively, with clear differences of opinions outlined by both sides of the discussion throughout the numerous meetings, ultimately yielding a recommendation to the Presbytery from the Committee on Discernment in support of Ardara Church’s request for dismissal.
In accepting its dismissal from the PC (USA), Ardara United Presbyterian Church has pledged an annual contribution of $2,400 per year, for four years, to Pine Springs Camp (www.PineSprings.ORG), a Christian summer camp affiliated with the Presbytery of Redstone and the PC (USA) denomination. Ardara Church has had a longstanding relationship with Pine Springs Camp, sending more than a dozen of its youth per year as campers for many years.
